KITSCH

KITSCH is a jewelry series that explores the tension between vulnerability and eternal beauty. Beyond mere ornamentation, each piece is envisioned as a “container of emotions,” holding a shifting equilibrium between repression and release, splendor and decay, perfection and imperfection.

The collection is deeply influenced by nineteenth-century Aestheticism and the literary world of Oscar Wilde, particularly The Picture of Dorian Gray. Within Wilde’s universe, beauty never appears entirely innocent. Beneath its exquisite surface lies secrecy, sacrifice, and the quiet fear of being truly seen. The novel raises a tragic question: if beauty could be preserved forever, what part of the self would have to be hidden—or destroyed—to sustain it?

The title KITSCH reflects on this contradiction. Excessive ornamentation can seduce the eye, yet it can also become a veil behind which the authentic self slowly disappears. In this collection, dramatic geometric forms and jewel-like colors create an immediate sense of splendor, while dense scars interrupt the illusion of polished perfection. Black and gold metallic surfaces suggest both desire and solemnity; red, blue, and purple gemstones introduce emotional intensity, allowing light to travel through and across the fractured structures.

Developed through Rhino modeling and KeyShot material visualization, the pieces exist between intimate adornment and miniature sculpture. Their complexity is not intended simply to display technical refinement. Instead, each form becomes a small psychological space where beauty and suffering are forced to coexist.

The scars embedded within the designs are not defects to be concealed. They are traces of memory, endurance, and emotions that can no longer remain repressed. KITSCH proposes that imperfection is not the opposite of beauty, but the place from which beauty acquires emotional weight. When the illusion of flawlessness begins to fracture, something more honest is finally allowed to emerge. Through this collection, I pursue a lifelong romance tinged with pain—a form of beauty that does not remain untouched by time, but becomes more radiant because it has survived it.
