1 Congratulations on your achievements in the French Fashion Awards! Could you share a bit about your awarded design, yourself or your studio?
This design was named and inspired by my daughter, Korianna, who is my whole world. They are made in Italy from genuine Italian leather by a master craftsman of 20 years plus. This shoe is my children’s line called Korianna Kidz.
2 What’s the one piece in your portfolio that you feel best represents your ideas, and why?
I don’t think I could just take one each one was so much fun to make, and each of their own qualities that I love.
3 What inspired you to pursue a career in fashion design, and what motivates your creative journey?
My motivation is definitely my love for shoes. I’ve always been one to have way too many. I love the reaction that people gave when they buy a pair of my shoes and love them. They seem to make a lasting impression on everyone who gets a pair.
4 What’s a day in your studio like—chaos, calm, or a bit of both?
My day in general is a bit of chaos, as I am also a student at Colorado Tech University in the United States. My day is usually quite busy.
5 If you had to describe your design philosophy in three words, what would they be?
Whimsical, fun, and comfy.
6 What was the “aha” moment when you knew you had to submit your winning designs to the award?
I was just hoping to see the world is excited about my design as I was.
7 If fashion had no rules, what’s the boldest design idea you would bring to life?
I would bring shoes, and belt jewellery to life. Your accessories are brought to life with tradable charms and pieces.
8 What’s a trend you wish would make a comeback—or disappear forever?
Vests and blazers. K would wear them in elementary school, and I loved them. Even if no one else did!
9 How do you balance artistic freedom with the commercial demands of the fashion industry?
I am in no hurry to make a ton of money off of my designs. I just do it for my love of shoes, so whatever happens happens. I love that they’ve come this far though!
10 If you could collaborate with any designer or artist, past or present, who would it be, and what would you create?
Thierry Hermes. In 1837, he founded Hermes, and it is of top quality. I think anyone who can learn to make a quality product that can appeal to just about anyone is just brilliant. I would have to put that craftsmanship into my design for a pair of heels, of course!
11 What does success in fashion mean to you—fame, impact, legacy, or something else entirely?
It means comfort and expressing yourself, and if you make a statement true, that's great.
12 How do you see fashion evolving over the next decade, and where do you see yourself in that position?
I guess only time will tell, we will have to see.
13 What’s the most surprising source of inspiration that has influenced your designs?
Everything around me at all times is an influence on my designs. Usually, people that I care about are what I name my designs after and just things that I like in general when it comes to fashion.
14 What’s one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self as a designer, or those who are just starting out?
Don’t do it for the money to do it for the fun.
15 If you could shape your life’s work into a single message to share with the world, what would it be?
Life isn’t perfect, but your outfit can be!
