Savage Growth

This work interprets my identity as a Yunnan native and the deep connection between this identity and nature through visual language. I was born in Yunnan, a land hailed as the "Kingdom of Plants" and "Hometown of Ethnic Minorities." Since childhood, I have been immersed in the lush natural scenery and diverse ethnic cultures here. However, with the changes of the times, forests have been deforested, and many traditional crafts have gradually been lost (for example, the tie-dyeing techniques of the Bai ethnic group are now barely known to young people). In the creation, I drew inspiration from the structure and form of plant vines, and integrated the fabric-binding craft of traditional Bai tie-dyeing to create a visual effect of vines spreading wildly and wrapping around the human body. For me, it is not only a concrete expression of my relationship with nature, but also intended to arouse people's cherished care for the natural environment and attention to the fading traditional crafts and cultures.
