The Design draws inspiration from the violent and horrific form of the Hindu goddess Kali, who is considered the ultimate Shakti of the universe in Vedic science.
Kaali is the symbol of ‘kaal’, the time; and time is unforgiving. Time is horrible by its nature. We all know how bad time can be. Time takes everyone to death eventually. Everything has an end in the realm of time, and everything recedes ultimately in the ever-engulfing mouth of the time.
This is the reason death is portrayed all around the Kaali. The decapitated heads of demons in her garland; the bloods all around. All symbolize the death. The goddess’s association with death and the transience of life is reflected in the design’s motifs, which include decapitated heads garland, symbolizing the universality of morality. By invoking Kali’s powerful symbolism, the design acknowledges the inescapable passage of time and the impermanence of all things.
To capture the essence of Kali’s destructive force, the designer crafted the head motifs in-house, arranging them to resemble a garland and create a sculpted, three-dimensional effect. The design involves a striking color pallet of black and gold, and expertly showcases the devastating aspects of the goddess, while featuring a unique blend of materials, including ultra-glossy, four-way stretchable latex fabric. This innovative textile was achieved through a meticulous process of infusing premium nylon monofilament, resulting in a truly distinctive visual statement.
The exquisite design showcases exceptional craftsmanship, with 75% of the construction completed by hand-sewing. The intricate process involved stitching multiple layers together, demonstrating unwavering dedication and attention to detail.
The design embodies the impartial nature of time, as epitomized by Kaali, through the incorporation of motifs depicting death and the severed heads of demons as a poignant reminder of time’s inescapable and destructive power. Despite the physical demand and challenges(needle pricks and finger bleeds) of this labor-intensive process, the designer's passion and commitment to excellence drove the successful completion of this remarkable piece of art.
